I’m a PhD candidate in UC Irvine’s program in Logic and Philosophy of Science (LPS).
My dissertation project uses tools from evolutionary game theory to consider how agents might learn or evolve to learn better in the different kinds of problems they frequently face. I see this project as closely connected to canonical philosophical concerns about induction, in particular Hume's and Goodman's problems.
Another ongoing project studies the evolution of fairness-related attitudes in the context of resource-division games.
I am also interested in the history and philosophy of probability and induction. I am particularly interested in Janina Hosiasson-Lindenbaum's work in these areas.
Before coming to Irvine, I completed a B.A. in philosophy at Notre Dame.
I am advised by Jeff Barrett. You can reach me at ctorsell(at)uci(dot)edu.
